Dear Parent(s) / Guardian(s)

NEXT WEEK: WEEK 4
Next week is an exciting week on the term 3 calendar:
FOUNDATION PHASE PLAY:
Thursday 5th August and Friday 6th August at 17h00
Camps Bay Primary will be staging our first Foundation Phase play: "The Enormous Crocodile" adapted from Roald Dahl and directed by Ms Alexander. Important: please you need to purchase tickets from Mrs Caldis as there will be pre-seating. Tickets will be available at the door pending availability. No moans and groans if you do not get seats - you snooze you lose!

CROSS-COUNTRY: Friday 6 August 11h00 to 13h00.
We will be running our annual Inter-House Cross-Country on Friday 6 August from 11h00 to 13h00 on the Symmonds Field. We will be running the Cross-Country this year using a route from the Symmonds field and through The Glen (and not at the high school). We have invited Camps Bay Preparatory School (grades 1 and 2) to participate with us in the Cross-Country event.
IMPORTANT: Please consult the enclosed letter on the details of the Cross-Country as we need plenty of moms and dads to assist as marshals. We will also be selling pre-ordered lunch snacks/drinks to avoid children having to bring money to school on the day of the cross-country.
All children are expected to participate even if they walk the course.

ASSEMBLY
No assembly this week as Cape Town Opera have been invited to perform for the children from 09h00 to 10h00 on Friday 30 July 2010. Parents are welcome to attend the performance.

MERIT AWARDS: Congratulations to the following pupils, each of whom was presented with a merit award at our assembly last week. We are proud of each one of you and would like to encourage you all to continue doing your best at all times.

RAK WEEK (Random Acts of Kindness): 26th to 30th July 2010
Camps Bay Primary is collecting items for ‘Onse Plek' for girls and the Homestead for boys which are two shelters in the city bowl area for homeless and street children. Suggested items: tinned food, deodorant, toilet paper, toiletries, socks, savlon, plasters and other items for children aged 8 to 16 years old. Items will be collected in the mornings and we will be running this collection on an Inter-House system to establish which house is the "Most Caring" House. We will be extending RAK Week by an extra week until Thursday 5 August to increase the extent of donations to ‘Onse Plek' and the Homestead. THANK YOU TO THOSE FAMILIES THAT HAVE SHOWN THEIR KINDNESS.

On Wednesday 28 July, the Grade 7 learner leaders visited the Camps Bay police station with cake and tea to show appreciation for our local SAPS. Thank you to Carol Bysshe and Vivienne Ashcroft for organising this act of kindness on behalf of CBPS.

DERBY DAY
Thank you to all who contributed to make the Derby Day against Llandudno Primary on Saturday such a success. Special thanks to Mr Hagglund (Sports Administrator) for organising the event and a special thanks to the CBP's who did an excellent job without their chief, Carol Bysshe, at the helm! For those of you not aware, Carol had a nasty fall and we wish her a speedy recovery! Thank you to all the parents, teachers and pupils who attended and enjoyed the day. CBP'S - TUCKSHOP:
Tuckshop every Friday. Mom's / Dad's please spare an hour on a Friday morning to help.

LUNCH (BREAD) BUDDIES: You should have received a flyer from the CBP's on this project. The CBP's have started a wonderful programme whereby each class has been allocated a Wednesday to bring bread, butter or margarine, jam or peanut butter to school and the children, assisted by some Moms, will make the sandwiches to be collected by "Bread Buddies". Grade 3S made sandwiches this week and the "assembly line" of children making sandwiches was very special to see. Thanks to the grade 3S moms who were able to supervise. It was again very successful with a MOUND of sandwiches made for less fortunate and hungry children. Thank you for your support with this project.
Next week is grade 4A's turn to make sandwiches.

GREEN TERM: GRASS GROW-A-THON
Thank you to all the families that have donated for this project. Reminder: the next part of this project is to lay turf on the tarred area behind the hall on the playground where our juniors play at breaks. The turf costs R350 per sq metre.

It is already 46 sq metres
GOAL: 146 sq metres
ONLY 100 sq meters TO GO!
You have raised R16 100 with generous donations - need to raise a further R21 000 to commence the next section. The CBP's will also be fundraising for this project in term 4 with a "Pumpkin Picnic" on Saturday 30 October 2010, however, if you would like to sponsor a square metre of turf, please email your donation to bursar@campsbayprimary.co.za We are planning to complete this project before the end of this year-ready for 2011!

FAMILY READING CHALLENGE: Quiz on 12 August, Micklefield School. As mentioned in assembly last term, forms available from the office for any family team (maximum 2 adults and 4 children) wishing to enter. Participants are expected to read specific books and then pit their wits against family teams from other schools. So far, only one team (Fagan-Hulme families) has entered on behalf of Camps Bay.

STEELBAND: Please note there will be no Steelband tomorrow.

BALLET: I am back from a really wonderful holiday. Lisl tells me that those who attended holiday classes worked extremely well but disappointed that out of 6 weeks some did not attend one lesson. Examinations will take place on Friday, 10 September! NB: The only rehearsal we can have with our pianist Mrs van Oordt is on Monday 9 August. Times to follow. Wishing you all a happy and successful Term 3. Mrs G and Lisl.

SPORT RESULTS:
GIRLS SOCCER: After a brief Tuesday afternoon practice to get our heads back in the game, the junior and senior girls played home matches against Herzlia Highlands and Kronendal respectively.
Both teams drew 0-0, but the score does not reflect the hard battles on the field. The senior girls also played at the Derby Day and drew 1-1. Tension mounted as Leah Cotton narrowly missed a goal in the final minutes. Very well done girls! A fine effort and a special thanks to all our supporters - home cheering makes all the difference! Coach B.

U11A SOCCER: In blustery conditions on the Camps Bay Club fields our boys played against Reddam House. It was an excellent display of team-work yet again by our boys who beat Reddam 4-0. Tristan Bell was in fantastic form with our first hat-trick of the season and the ever reliable Julliano Joannides who scored our fourth goal. Keep the goals coming boys!
